Mission Statement
The mission of The Brooklyn International High School is to assist new learners of English in developing their linguistic, intellectual, cultural, and collaborative abilities so that they may become active participants in today’s interdependent world.
Educational Philosophy
- Our students need to understand, speak, read, and write English so that they may share a common language and realize their potential as contributing members of this English-speaking society.
- School members’ native languages, cultures, and families are a resource for the student, the school, and society.
- Learning and language acquisition are enhanced by experiences both in and out of the school building.
- Students and faculty must investigate the ethical questions which arise in our pluralistic society in order to foster an appreciation of diversity.
- Learning and teaching are interdisciplinary and collaborative endeavors which are best accomplished by heterogeneous groups.
- We emphasize high expectations of students and teachers in their individual and collaborative quest for excellence.
- Assessment must offer a variety of opportunities on an ongoing basis for students and staff to demonstrate what we know, what we can do, and what we are learning and teaching.
- Effective school management is a shared activity; consequently, students, families, and faculty must participate in the school decision-making process.
